Food Review - Hansang Korean Restaurant
Went to have Korean lunch at UE Square 2, 3rd Floor called Hansang Korean Family Restaurant. The whole building is meant for Korean shopping experience which wasn’t to be with many other non-koreanish stores starting to pop in the shopping mall. I was definitely skeptical on the Korean authenticity as the restaurant is very commercialised with a range of non-Korean dishes (fusion?) Even with the BBQ pit, metal chopsticks and Korean words on the menu doesn’t mean its fully Korean.
I was particularly cheesed off when one of the service lady staff spoke to us in chinese when placing our orders! Isn’t this place suppose to be a Korean Restaurant? At least one staff got to be a Korean to show the Korean hospitality. Luckily the lady boss came out and greet us in Korean and spoke to us with her Koreanish English. But seriously, having China service staff doesn’t give them the rights to speak to us in chinese when there are customers who are non-chinese and its a Korean restaurant for goodness sake. FAIL.
Minus the bad start, these are what we order for a $15 lunch set meal :
Starters Dish - Korean ikan belis , potato salad and Preserved black beans. Its all bite size and very small portion. I could fault this first dish but since its a starter I will not. The preserved black beans is the highlight of the starter. PASS.
Korean Side Dishes - Kim Chi, fried brinjal, cold vegetable and Kim Chi Bean sprout. PASS.
Seafood Pancake - Fried Egg Pancake with prawn, squid and spring onion. Bite size. PASS.
Half Chicken Korean Ginseng Soup - The soup is bland. Chicken wasn’t half size, lookes more like 1/4 size. The ginseng which is my favourite was pathetically small, the size of our 50 cents coin. FAIL.
OR
Korean Beef Noodle Soup - This is a bowl of mismatch proportion. Chinese Caixin vegetable in a Korean dish, odd arrangement. The soup was bland with a hint of teriyaki sauce. The noodles look and taste like Udon. Japanese noodles in a Korean dish, another odd arrangement. Only 2 small slices of beef, that was very disheartening. FAIL.
Desert - Water mellon cubes. 3 pieces covered with sugar syrup. FAIL.
Coffee or Tea - I choose the tea and surprisingly this was my favourite serving among all. Its a fragrance tea with a slice of lemon. Refreshing after-taste after eating those rubbish. GOOD.
Honestly speaking, it wasn’t a pleasant experience eating at this restaurant. There are better ones out there in the market with real authencity and better pricing. Coming back again… NO.
