iPhone 3G - Suck It In

A relative asked me this question: "whats so good about iPhone 3G?" Giving me 101 reasons that iPhone 3G is a lousy phone, there are better phones out there, blah blah blah blah. Yes, I do agree there are some shortcomings for the iPhone 3G but hey… the phone is constantly evolving and I don’t need to explain the good points to him either. I just quote him the FACTS :

1. More than 12 Million iPhones 3G sold world wide

2. More than 1 Billion downloads for the apps (applications)

3. The iPhone technology is 5 years way ahead for any latest phone in the market

3. And lastly, its the De-Facto phone for all phones to follow.

I just can’t believe that there are such people out there in self denial when iPhone 3G is clearly the phone to have for the future.

Enough said.
Suck It In !

By the way, I don’t carry iPhone 3G. Anyone wants to sponsor me? :)

Wedding Red Packets

Do you know the meaning of wedding red packets (Ang Pows)?

A Chinese red packet is nothing but a simple red envelope in which money is enclosed. These evelopes are decorated with lucky symbols, conveying blessing of prosperity for those to whom they are bestowed. The packet is often referred as Bao in Mandarin, and is derived from the word Yin Yang (Yang denoting positive energy). The envelopes are red as that color represents blessings and prosperity in the Chinese culture.

All been said, weddings and ROMs are always a happy occasion. Wedding couples would plan their wedding meticulously and ensure that everything is run smoothly. Elaborate lunch or dinner function is usually cater for families, relatives and friends to come together and share this happy occasion once in their lifetime.
All these doesn’t come cheap and usually its very taxing for the couple and their respective immediate families. That is why wedding Ang Pows play an important part in helping the wedding couples to ‘buffer’ their expenses.

Now….. think about it. What happens if guests doesn’t share their Ang Pow blessings in a wedding event?

Can you feel their pain and burden when you see the wedding couple?
Can you digest properly the free meal?
Can you figure out what others might think of you?
And lastly can you acknowledge yourself as how you are associated with the wedding couple?

Just know that the wedding couple is starting a new harmonious journey together, through thick and thin, lets not give them a BAD start.

Poison Apple for a thought……

Congrats to Jaclyn and Deli

2nd May 2009 was a happy occasion for my sister-in-law Jaclyn’s ROM with Deli. I was very honoured to host their ROM at Marriot Hotel.
My greatest wish for the two of you is that through the years your love for each other will so deepen and grow, that years from now you will look back on this day, your wedding day, as the day you loved each other.
May God Bless you and Deli.

ViWaWa Mahjong Competition rules

Just found out more details for the ViWaWa Mahjong Competition.
I need to play 20 rounds in total. Each round will consist of 4 matches.
End of each match, points will be given to all 4 players.
- Players with the winning tiles will receive higher points depending on the number of ‘FANs’ they win.
- Players who hasn’t reached to his/her calling tiles will have deductions.
- Players who are waiting for winning tiles will not have any points deductions.
Winner of each round will be awarded to the player with the most points after 4 matches.
In the event of a draw, all player will be awarded a draw point.

There is a catch, in the event of a player drop out from a match (through lost of internet connections or lost of interest), all players will be awarded with a draw point in regardless on the points you have. Obviously the player who drops out will be penalised externally (Level experience deductions?)

Mahjong Tournament

I have registered myself for the Viwawa Online Mahjong competition. Doesn’t cost much , just S$0.50 only. Starts on 1st May 2009. Top Prize is worth S$388 though its a small sum but hey I can’t fault the prize money since I like playing it and get paid winning it (cocky). Anyway, rules are simple :

  1. There will be 2 time slots available for competition everyday. 1100hr to 1500hr and 1900hr to 2300hr.
  2. Complete 20 matches.
  3. When you enter the competition lobby, the system will match you with 3 other players for match.
  4. Every player will start off with 20000 points at the start of each match.
  5. 4 rounds will be played each match. Winner will be the player with the highest credit points at end of match. In event of a draw, it will be recorded as a draw.
  6. Top 64 players will be chosen based on their wins, draws and loss records. Viwawa’s decision on the players who proceed to next round is final.
  7. Top 64 players will proceed to the Knock out phase of the tournament.
  8. Accounts of Finalists will be cloned at the end of 29th April 2009 (+8 GMT).
  9. Games will be played on 10 seconds per turn, Hongkong Mode and Minimum of 3 tai.

Looks like its going to be a strategy game plan, Hong Kong mode doesn’t utilise animal tiles so the maximum winnings in front can only be 2 tais. Means must craft out good tiles in the back and surprise everyone. I did try out a pre-tournament setting of 20 rounds. I could only win 5 , draw 1 and lose 14 !! Pathetic!. Anyway… its for fun. Will update on my blog on the results. Good Luck!

8 Fan for Viwawa Mahjong

Been playing online mahjong at Viwawa for a few weeks and my mahjong skills is improving. LOL! Still got alot more to learn especially the ‘wind’ mode. As mentioned, I am only at Level 6 so I won’t consider as a pro, seen some competitive players with levels as high as Level 80! Gave them a run for their money when I compete with them. Anyway its a just a leisure time for me at home when I need a quick break from my hectic ‘fruit’ work.
Managed to score my highest winnings today. 8 Fan !! Try beating that. :)

Mini Mahjong

Jac bought from a local store a new mini mahjong set that comes with the tiles and a table. As you can see the size of the tiles in comparison with the hand and the width of the table is about 40cm. You can use it for traveling or chalet or even with friends who wants to have a quick game. Pretty small I must say and it makes a nice novelty. The tiles are made from ivory (they claimed) and it has a storage component under the table to store the tiles and coins, interesting!
All these for less than S$50?! Its a steal . . . for the addicts.

Toby The Cat

I have this special neighbourhood cat which often hangs around my block. Very well mannered feline which is not afraid of strangers. Well liked by my block residents, they often feed him. I will always get to meet him after work either at the lift lobby or on the top of the postbox.  If you are nice to him, he will come up to you snuggle at your lap. OH yes, I name him Toby the cat or TOBS in short. Meow!
